The Community Foundation Northern Ireland has announced that the Thomas Devlin Fund is now open for its 2026 round of applications. This fund offers an annual bursary scheme specifically for gifted young people aged 15 to 19 who are looking to develop their skills or pursue professional careers in music, performing arts, or creative arts. The fund serves as a lasting tribute to Thomas Devlin, who was tragically murdered in 2005 at the age of 15, by helping other young people reach the next level of their artistic journeys.

Opportunities and Impact
For 2026, the fund is providing grants of up to £1,750. These bursaries are intended for unique opportunities that go above and beyond regular training – such as residential courses abroad, specialized summer schools, or living costs for national youth theatre productions. In previous years, the fund has supported 125 young people in diverse activities ranging from attending arts colleges in London to taking part in prestigious fiddle and cello courses in Scotland and the US. The Community Foundation is particularly keen to hear from those who might not typically have access to these kinds of high-level opportunities, and they have noted a strong interest in innovative projects within the creative, fine, and literary arts.

Requirements and Support
Applicants must be able to demonstrate their potential for growth and their need for financial assistance. Because the application requires a reference from a teacher, tutor or youth worker, it is important to start the process early so your referee has time to articulate why you should receive the support. While the fund supports career development, it cannot be used for equipment, formal tuition fees, or mobile games and app design.

The success rate for applications to this fund was a notable 64% in 2025, making it a very strong opportunity for those who take the time to apply. If you need any assistance with the form, the Community Foundation grants team is available to help via email or phone.

Deadline
The final deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 5th 2026, at 1.00 PM.

You can find the full criteria and access the application portal on the Community Foundation Northern Ireland website.
