The Music Matters Internship Programme: Internship Opportunities in the Belfast Music Industry
Funded by Belfast City Council in association with Workplus, the Music Matters Internship Programme offers a great opportunity for individuals looking to develop their careers in the Belfast music industry. Designed to help nurture the next generation of music professionals, this programme connects talented individuals with some of Belfast’s leading music businesses, providing invaluable work experience and the chance to build a strong foundation in the sector.
The programme offers six-month, full-time, paid placements, allowing interns to gain hands-on experience and develop key skills while working with established names across the city’s diverse music scene. Internships are available with a variety of organisations, including AVA, Up Productions, Score Draw Music, Arts Care, Accidental Theatre and Belfast TradFest.
Launched in October 2024 by Belfast City Music, the Music Matters Internship Programme is part of an initiative to boost the local music industry and ensure its continued growth. As a UNESCO City of Music, Belfast is recognised globally for its rich musical heritage and vibrant music culture. This programme seeks to provide future talent with the opportunity to gain experience with local businesses, helping to secure a successful career in the sector.
The programme, managed by early talent experts Workplus, will provide funding for seven local music businesses, enabling them to offer paid internships for six months. Each business can receive up to £5,000 to cover the costs of employing an intern. This makes the programme an excellent opportunity for school leavers, recent graduates, or anyone looking to change careers and gain practical experience in the Belfast music industry.
Interns will have the chance to work closely with industry professionals, learning about event management, marketing, production, sound engineering, and other aspects of the music business. With access to some of Belfast’s most prominent music companies, the Music Matters Internship Programme is an ideal stepping stone for anyone looking to make their mark in the local music scene.
Applications for the Music Matters Internship Programme are open until 20th December 2024. For more information on how to apply and to view the full list of internship opportunities, visit the Workplus website.
