Sound and Music’s Essentials Fund is now accepting applications. This grant scheme provides composers, music creators, and artists working with sound the opportunity to secure funding to purchase essentials for their practice. The grants range from £250 to £400 and are designed to support activities such as self-learning projects, acquiring equipment, mentoring, and other direct costs that contribute to artistic development.

Applications are open to UK-based composers and music creators aged 18 or over, including those in Northern Ireland. To be eligible, applicants must not be in education at the time of applying and must not have participated in a Sound and Music programme or received funding from them in the last six months. This fund aims to support those who can clearly outline the intended use of the grant and its impact on their creative work. There is no requirement for a completed work or performance date as part of the funding.

The Essentials Fund is part of Sound and Music’s commitment to breaking down barriers and fostering equality and inclusion in the music sector. Applicants from under-represented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, ensuring that funding reaches those who will benefit most.

Applications for this round close on Thursday 7th November 2024 at 23:59 GMT. A minimum of 11 successful applicants will be awarded grants in this round, with results announced by Friday 22nd November 2024. Interested artists should submit a brief biography and respond to questions via an online form, or through a video or audio application.
