NI Artists Among MEGS Funding Recepients

In the latest round of the Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS), five Northern Irish acts have received a share of the £1.6 million funding aimed at boosting the international presence of UK artists. This scheme, developed and administered by the BPI, helps independent UK companies expand their artists’ commercial profiles in key overseas markets.
The NI recipients are:
- Dana Masters – A jazz/soul singer originally from the U.S., now based in Northern Ireland, with strong ties to the local music scene.
- Robocobra Quartet – A genre-defying jazz-punk band from Belfast, known for their unique sound.
- Ryan McMullan – A folk-influenced pop singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland.
- Far Caspian – A band hailing from Northern Ireland, bringing their dreamy alternative pop sound to a growing global audience.
- Panic Over – A fast-rising indie-rock quartet from Bangor, Co. Down.
These acts are among the 58 UK-based artists and groups supported by MEGS funding, which is designed to help them grow their global profiles and navigate the increasing competition in international music markets. This scheme is crucial as rising international touring costs make it harder for independent artists to fund the necessary promotional work.
Sophie Jones, BPI Chief Strategy Officer, commented on the importance of the scheme: “At a time where new acts face increasing global competition, the Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS) is needed more than ever to enable the next generation of British talent to reach international audiences and grow their profile. It is a genuine game-changer for the artists supported through the scheme, a critical resource for the UK’s burgeoning independent sector, and a proven financial success with a significant return on investment and boost to exports.”
The full list of artists receiving MEGS funding includes a wide variety of genres, from indie rock to jazz-punk, showcasing the diverse creative talent that exists across the UK. The scheme continues to be an invaluable resource for emerging talent and is expected to provide long-term growth in exports for the British music industry.
With this support, these Northern Irish acts are poised to take their careers to new heights, gaining recognition and exposure on the international stage. The impact of this funding extends beyond the individual artists themselves, helping to elevate the entire NI music scene globally.
As MEGS continues to provide a significant boost to UK artists, it remains an essential tool for breaking new talent on the global stage. For these five NI acts, this funding could be the key to unlocking their international success.
