Fleadh Cheoil Officially Set for Belfast Next Year

It’s official! Belfast has been confirmed as the host city for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026.
The world’s largest festival of traditional Irish music will take place in the city for the first time from 2–9 August 2026, following a successful bid by Belfast City Council and Ards Comhaltas. This will be only the second time in the Fleadh’s 75-year history that it has been held north of the border.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors, bringing an estimated €70 million economic boost to Belfast. The festival will feature over 400 events, including competitions, concerts, street performances, pop-up gigs, and community céilís.
Belfast Lord Mayor Micky Murray said: “I have no doubt that the Fleadh in Belfast will be something unique. It will be a truly inclusive festival that will allow all our citizens – and visitors from near and far – to celebrate together.”
Dr Labhrás Ó Murchú, Director-General of Comhaltas, highlighted the significance of the event:
“The legacy of the 2014 Fleadh in Derry City is still widely spoken about, making this a fantastic opportunity for Belfast to create its own legacy.”
More details on the programme will be announced in due course.
