As part of this year’s Sound of Belfast festival, a special session at the Oh Yeah Music Centre will offer local artists, producers and labels the chance to better understand one of the most crucial income streams in music.
Taking place on Tuesday 11th November from 5-6pm, An Introduction to PPL: Get Played Get Paid will see Leo O’Brien, Member Development Manager at PPL, demystify the process of how performers and recording rightsholders are paid when their music is broadcast or played in public.
For self-releasing artists and independent labels alike, getting to grips with royalties and rights management can be daunting – but it’s also essential. This in-person session will walk attendees through the practical steps needed to register their recordings, track airplay and make sure that revenue flows back to the people who created the music in the first place.
From radio spins and TV placements to music played in venues, shops and cafés, every performance generates potential income. Leo will outline how PPL works to collect and distribute those royalties, ensuring that creators across NI are fairly rewarded for their work.
It’s a one-hour crash course that could make a tangible difference to your career, part of Sound of Belfast’s mission to empower artists, strengthen the local ecosystem and ensure that the city’s vibrant music community continues to thrive on fair, transparent foundations.
