RSM and BAPAM Present: Healthy Drummers and Percussionists Webinar

10:30am – 12:30pm, Tuesday 10th Dec 2024

Drummers and percussionists in Belfast’s UNESCO City of Music and across Northern Ireland are invited to take part in a special webinar, RSM and BAPAM Present: Healthy Drummers and Percussionists, on Tuesday 10th December from 10:30am to 12:30pm. This free online session, presented by the Royal Society of Musicians (RSM) and the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM), focuses on preventing and recovering from the physical challenges unique to percussionists.

The webinar will feature two leading experts, Mark Phillips and Martin Ranscombe, sharing insights drawn from their specialised fields. Mark is an orthopaedic consultant and hand surgery specialist at London Sports Orthopaedics, while Martin brings his dual experience as a professional drummer and educator with expertise in injury prevention, rehabilitation and relaxed playing techniques. Together, they will cover the most common injuries faced by drummers and percussionists, practical methods to avoid them and effective recovery strategies to get back behind the kit confidently.

This session is part of a broader series of health education workshops by RSM and BAPAM, aimed at equipping musicians with the knowledge to protect their wellbeing. The workshops bring together experts in performing arts medicine to address health challenges musicians may encounter, offering prevention techniques and guidance on where to seek help when needed.

Whether you’re a seasoned percussionist or just starting out, this webinar offers valuable advice to ensure a long and healthy career in music. Sign up now to secure your place.
