PRS x MU Workshop: Monetising Your Music Copyrights
Monday 19th May 2025

PRS for Music and the Musicians’ Union are teaming up for two essential sessions in NI this May – one in Belfast and one in Derry/Londonderry – focused on a subject that’s too often overlooked: how to turn your copyrights into income.
Aimed at musicians, songwriters, and creators across the North, Monetising Your Music Copyrights will break down the basics of copyright and show how a better understanding of your rights can lead directly to new revenue streams. These are practical, no-fluff sessions designed to empower artists with the tools to protect and profit from their work.
The Belfast event takes place on Monday 19 May from 3–5pm at the Oh Yeah Music Centre. It’ll kick off with a one-hour presentation from 3.15pm followed by a Q&A and informal networking. The Derry/Londonderry session happens the following day, Tuesday 20 May, at North West Regional College (exact time TBC.)
Open to everyone, whether you’re a PRS or MU member or not, this is a rare chance to get clarity on copyright directly from the people who know it best. As Charlene Hegarty from the MU puts it, “Copyright is important but it doesn’t need to be complicated. Our aim within this session is to clarify the importance of copyright and how it relates to your future sustainability in the music sector.”
Stuart Fleming of PRS added: “By sharing a clear understanding of copyright and how songwriters and artists can monetise their songs, our partnership with Musicians Union is an opportunity for the creator community to learn valuable information, tips and advice. Open to all, these sessions will provide insight on how to unlock the many revenue streams available and help creators take the next step in their career.”
