BBC 6Music New Music Fix Live

9:00am, Monday 25th – 11:00am, Thursday 28th Nov 2024

BBC Radio 6 Music’s New Music Fix Live event will return for a second year, taking place in Belfast from Monday 25th to Thursday 28th November 2024. Broadcast on both BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio Ulster, the event will showcase NI’s eclectic musical landscape, shining a spotlight on emerging talent and the grassroots music culture that defines the region. This marks a big moment for Belfast, our UNESCO City of Music, as it welcomes one of the BBC’s most celebrated music programmes to its vibrant stage.

Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, highlighted the importance of bringing the event to Belfast: “After the success of New Music Fix Live in Glasgow last year, it’s brilliant to be able to bring the event to Belfast in 2024 and a real treat to collaborate with our colleagues at BBC Northern Ireland, to celebrate the incredible musical talent coming from Northern Ireland and dive deep into the venues, artists and sounds that make up its eclectic and thriving music scene.”

Paul McClean, Executive Editor of Music, Arts, and Events at BBC Northern Ireland, added: “This part of the world has always produced astonishing alternative music, from punk to techno, so we are thrilled to host our cousins from 6 Music and to help shine a spotlight on the immense talent we have emerging from Northern Ireland.”

The week-long series will be led by New Music Fix Daily presenters Tom Ravenscroft and Deb Grant, who will broadcast their show live from Belfast from Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th November.

These broadcasts, airing from 7-9pm, will feature in-depth conversations with Northern Irish artists, including electronic duo Bicep, hip hop trio Kneecap, and queer-punk band Problem Patterns. Special acoustic sessions with singer-songwriters SOAK and piglet will be recorded in some of Belfast’s most iconic venues, alongside DJ sets from leading producers Sally C and Or:la, highlighting the city’s diverse and thriving music scene.

The week culminates on Thursday 28th November with an extended New Music Fix Live event at Ulster Sports Club. The live broadcast, running from 7-10pm, will feature performances from three Belfast-based acts: noise-punk outfit Enola Gay, garage-punk trio Jock, and rant-hop duo Dirty Faces. An audience of 6 Music listeners will be present, adding to the energy of this unique showcase. BBC Radio Ulster will simulcast the live event, ensuring local audiences can tune in alongside the national broadcast.

Tickets for 6 Music Presents: New Music Fix Live at Ulster Sports Club are available now. Performance highlights from the week will be shared on BBC Radio 6 Music’s social channels, and full programmes will be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days after broadcast.

This event forms part of the BBC’s Across the UK initiative, designed to better reflect and serve diverse audiences across the country. It also underscores Belfast’s cultural significance as a UNESCO City of Music, further cementing its reputation as a hub for creativity and innovation.

New Music Fix Daily, usually broadcast from Salford, focuses exclusively on the best new releases from across the globe. For the week in Belfast, the show promises an exciting exploration of NI’s musical talent, celebrating the artists and sounds that make the region truly special.
