Musicians’ Union Vocal Health Workshop

5:30pm – 7:00pm, Thursday 8th May 2025

A new vocal health workshop is taking place in Belfast on Thursday, May 8, offering practical and evidence-based guidance for singers, performers and voice users working across Northern Ireland’s music scene. Hosted by the Musicians’ Union (MU) in collaboration with BAPAM, the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine, this free, in-person session will run from 6–7pm at the Oh Yeah Music Centre and is open to anyone keen to learn more about maintaining vocal health.

Led by Eimear McCarthy Luddy (MMus), the hour-long workshop will blend clinical pathways, research, and psychological insight with real-world experience, offering participants a toolkit for looking after their voice-something vital in a sector where three-quarters of musicians encounter health issues that can affect their ability to work. From vocal maintenance and early warning signs to managing issues and knowing when to seek help, the session promises practical takeaways grounded in real expertise.

The workshop is part of a wider effort to offer free services to musicians navigating the demands of performing, recording, and teaching. BAPAM also runs a Belfast-based clinic offering confidential medical advice, and its online resources include a huge archive of fact sheets and guidance specific to creators and performers.

Places are limited, so early booking is advised. To reserve your spot, book your place online here or email charlene.hegarty@themu.org.
