Make Music Day 2025: Taking Flight

9:00am – 11:00am, Saturday 21st Jun 2025

On 21 June, Belfast will be the UK host city for a truly global celebration of music. As part of Make Music Day, singers from around the world will come together for Taking Flight, a unique live choral experience connecting communities across continents.

At the same moment in countries including Canada, Ghana, South Africa, Germany, Mexico and beyond, singers will gather to learn a popular song on the spot, before performing it live as part of an international broadcast linking each location in real time. In Belfast, Beyond Skin, whose work across intercultural arts and peacebuilding in NI continues to be vital, is leading the event in partnership with Accidental Theatre and Soultrane.

Each choir will perform its own chosen song on the theme of “Taking Flight,” before the event culminates in a global rendition of Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ sung together in harmony from all corners of the world.

Belfast’s rehearsal begins at 5pm at Accidental Theatre, with the live broadcast from 7.10pm. Those interested in taking part can email info.beyondskin@gmail.com.

Now in its 42nd year, Make Music Day is an international celebration of music making, held every 21 June. All events are free and open to the public.
