GALSI Course 2024

10:30am, Tuesday 29th – 4:00pm, Wednesday 30th Oct 2024

The Gender and the Large and Shiny Instruments (GALSI) young persons’ brass and percussion course will take place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October, from 10.30 to 16.30. Open to musicians aged 8 to 25 who identify as female or non-binary, this vibrant course, presented in partnership with the Royal College of Music, London, offers a unique opportunity for those passionate about brass and percussion.

This year’s course features leading tutors including Carol Jarvis (trombone), Hanna Mbuya (tuba), Vic Isfryn (trumpet), and percussionists Beibei Wang and Kizzy Brooks. Participants will engage in a range of activities, from ensemble performances to masterclasses, with separate groups for juniors, intermediates, and seniors. A new intermediate brass group has been added due to high demand, and an optional evening performance by the trombone quartet Bones Apart is scheduled for the first day.

Northern Irish musicians are particularly encouraged to apply, as travel bursaries of up to £400 are available for those travelling from outside London and the home counties. Interested individuals should apply for these bursaries by emailing largeandshiny@gmail.com with details about their location and estimated travel costs. The course costs £80 for two days, with some subsidised places also available. To register, visit the RCM website by 15th October.

Please note, participants must be available for both days.
