Belfast TradFest Announces New All-Ireland Bursary Scheme for Young Traditional Musicians

Belfast TradFest has announced a new opportunity for emerging traditional musicians across the island. The newly launched All-Ireland Residential Bursary Scheme is now open to applicants aged 18–23 from both NI and the Republic of Ireland, offering fully funded places at this summer’s TradFest Summer School.
Taking place from 28 July to 1 August 2025 at Ulster University’s Belfast campus, the summer school will feature an intensive week of workshops, masterclasses, and performances led by a world-class roster of tutors. This year’s line-up includes Kevin Burke, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Mary Bergin, Cathy Jordan, John Doyle, Zoë Conway, Chris Stout and Catriona McKay.
The bursary covers tuition, accommodation, meals, and access to afternoon events. One participant will be selected from each of the island’s 32 counties, with a strong focus on supporting musicians who may face financial or social barriers to attending.
Now in its sixth year, Belfast TradFest continues to grow as a major fixture on the traditional music calendar. Alongside the summer school, the 2025 edition will feature performances from Dervish, NOTIFY, The Breath, Julie Fowlis, the Ulster Orchestra, MOXIE, Goitse and many more, as well as festival clubs, a piping competition, the Titanic Céilí and the return of Flutopia.
Applications for the bursary close at 6pm on Monday 2 June. Visit here for full details and to apply.
