The Arts Council NI’s National Lottery Arts & Older People Programme open for applications
The Arts Council NI’s National Lottery Arts & Older People Programme is now open for applications. Community groups, arts organisations, and councils can apply for grants ranging from £1,000 to £10,000 to support arts projects that enhance the lives of older people. Applications are accepted from 2 September to 12 noon on 17 October 2024.
Whether you’re in our UNESCO City of Music or anywhere across Northern Ireland, this programme aims to challenge stereotypes, combat loneliness, and promote mental well-being through arts engagement. Since its launch in 2010, it has allocated nearly £2.2 million to over 244 projects, benefiting thousands of older adults.
Lorraine Calderwood, Development Officer at the Arts Council, stated, “Thanks to National Lottery players, this programme provides older people with valuable arts opportunities that boost their self-esteem and well-being. We urge organisations across the region to apply.”
A notable success from last year is Live Music Now (NI), which used the funding to deliver music sessions for people with dementia in Belfast. Joan Telford, Manager at Edgcumbe Dementia Day Centre, commended the programme: “Music allows our clients to express themselves where words sometimes fail, significantly improving their mood and behaviour.”
Applications are open until 17 October 2024. For more information and to apply, visit the Arts Council NI’s website.
