The Heathen Choír
The Heathen Choír is the moniker under which singer songwriter Darren Doherty (A Northern Light) releases and performs his quite unique brand of melodic sad songs.
Formed in Strabane, Northern Ireland in 2017 after getting sober Doherty has independently released a full debut (What You Do – 2017) numerous standalone singles and an emotional juggernaut of a live album (Live at The Ghostlight Sessions – 2020).
Topics like his own alcoholism, childhood trauma, domestic abuse as well as social issues sit alongside unabashed love songs all threaded together in his Northern Irish accent with stark honesty and melodies that get inside and never leave.
Compared to other confessional songwriters like Alanis Morissette, Frightened Rabbit & Counting Crows The Heathen Choír is not for the faint hearted but more so ‘the bleeding hearts and the artists.’
